About UsThe Canopy is a well-established community organisation based in Newcastle and the Hunter region. For almost 40 years, we’ve supported children, families and communities through programs that build resilience, confidence and connection. From parenting support and family casework, to playgroups, food programs, and community development initiatives – we’re here to make a real difference.

Who We’re Looking ForWe’re keen to hear from people in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the Hunter, Central Coast and surrounding regions who bring any of the following:

  • Knowledge of child, youth or family services systems.
  • Skills in finance, risk, legal or compliance.
  • HR or people management expertise.
  • Fundraising, philanthropy, or partnership experience.
  • Governance or board leadership background (GAICD welcome, but not essential).
  • A passion for inclusion and diversity, with lived experience valued alongside professional expertise.

 

Commitment

  • Our Board meets bi-monthly, with alternate months used if and when required.
  • Participate in occasional sub-committees, events or strategy sessions.
  • Act as an ambassador for The Canopy’s mission and values.
