Purpose

The Board of Environs Kimberley (EK) exists to govern the organisation. EK’s core role is to protect the nature of the Kimberley. The Board commits to governing in line with EK’s values and its legal and ethical responsibilities.

Board Position Needed

EK's operations and budget have grown a lot in the last decade. We are at an exciting stage of development and being on our Board is great way to contribute positively to environmental protection. We have identified gaps in the Board's accounting and financial management. We are seeking a person with these skills, and a commitment to environmental conservation, to join our Board.

EK Values

  • Excellence: We hold ourselves to the highest standards, ensuring our work is thoughtful, ethical, and effective.
  • Respect: We act with integrity and care, honouring the dignity of every person.
  • Proactivity: We see what is needed and act with purpose.
  • Connection: Our relationships define our work, bringing diverse perspectives to a shared purpose.
  • Dedication: We are committed to listening, learning, and growing together.

The Board comprises:

  • Chairperson
  • Deputy Chairperson
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Up to 4 ordinary Board members
  • Executive Director (non-voting)
  • Operations Director (non-voting)

Each Board member must:

  • Understand EK’s governance needs and have the skills to meet them
  • Act in the best interests of EK
  • Use care, diligence, and skill
  • Comply with all laws, policies and Board decisions

Board members make decisions collectively, respect confidentiality, and uphold EK’s values at all times.

Communication is key to collective decision making. Board Members need access to a laptop and Teams software. A Board Pack is prepared seven days ahead of the monthly Board meeting and needs to be read and reflected upon ahead of the meeting. Board members then arrive at the meeting with questions, perspectives and suggestions prepared and ready to deliver and discuss.

Board meetings are held monthly. Currently, this is the last Wednesday of each month from 5:15 –7:15pm. Attendance can be in person at 9 Farrel Street or online. Occasionally we will also conduct business through posts on our Teams channel.

New Board members will be provided with an orientation and induction into their role. This will be completed before the new Board member attends their first meeting.
