ABOUT US 

NorCen Financial Services Ltd is a franchisee of Bendigo Bank and operates the locally owned Community Banks of Kilmore, Wallan and Broadford. 

We have been operating for over twenty years and have reinvested more than $5M into the local community through grants, sponsorships and community initiatives that make a real difference. 

Our Board is made-up of community members with a diverse range of professional skills and experience, including finance, accounting, human resources, risk management, strategic planning, governance, legal, and general business knowledge.

Each Board member is required to work in the best interests of NorCen Financial Services, embracing its vision, purpose, values and strategic goals.

Our Purpose: To provide local financial services to bolster community groups and diversify our investments to deliver sustainable returns.

THE ROLE 

This is a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise to a community-focused organisation that is evolving the community bank model to serve our region better.  

Key areas of work of the Board are: 

  • Developing our strategic priorities and direction 

  • Monitoring financial position and performance 

  • Adhering to corporate governance and regulatory compliance 

  • Overseeing organisational culture, talent management and operational excellence 

  • Communicating to and engaging with our community 

Role requirements: 

  • Regular attendance at Board meetings and events, including Annual General Meeting. Meetings are held in person on the last Tuesday evening of each month in Wallan. 

  • A time commitment of approximately 10 hours per month, to undertake Board meeting preparation, attend Board meetings and sub-committees, actively participate in discussions and deliberations and attend community events. 

  • Apply professional/industry expertise to support the development and review of policies and programs in addition to having well-rounded governance skills. 

  • Willingness to serve on at least one sub-committee and participate actively in its work. 

  • High level of commitment to the organisation's work and values. 

  • Understand NorCen Financial Services and the Community Bank model and support them publicly. 

  • Ability to help grow the NorCen community bank footprint, particularly in rapidly developing areas in Melbourne’s outer northern corridor. 

ABOUT YOU 

We're seeking candidates with management or Board experience in the not-for-profit, government, finance, banking, business or professional services sectors. 

We are particularly seeking candidates with skills in: 

  • Information technology - to strengthen our appreciation of risk as well as contemporary utilisation within Board operations 

  • Risk management and compliance – to support our governance framework 

  • Strategic leadership – with demonstrated ability to think critically and contribute to organisational direction, particularly related to growth opportunities for NorCen.

Ideally you will be based in the Kilmore, Wallan, Broadford or surrounding region.
