We are seeking expressions of interest from passionate individuals to join our volunteer Board of Directors. As a Board Member, you will play a vital role in guiding our strategic direction, ensuring strong governance, and supporting our mission to remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare.

Our Impact & Operations  

RMHC SEQ is two years into delivering on our four-year strategic plan (2024-2027) and it’s an exciting time to join us. As a Board Member, you will help guide the organisation through the second half of this plan and play a key role in shaping the next strategy and future direction of RMHC SEQ.  

Our services operate 24/7, 365 days a year, delivering essential accommodation and support programs for families with seriously ill or injured children and high-risk expectant mothers. Our current programs include three Ronald McDonald Houses, three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, a Hospitality Cart, and a comprehensive Learning Program.  To understand our current position, financial performance, and the impact we have on the community, we encourage you to visit our website and download our 2023 and 2024 Impact Reports. Who We’re Looking For 

We encourage applications from anyone committed to making a difference, and we are especially interested in individuals who: 

  • Have skills and experience in: 
  • Governance (Australian Institute of Company Directors Training/Qualifications highly desirable) 
  • Government Advocacy/Political Lobbying 
  • Fundraising, Marketing & Communications 
  • Accommodation/Hotel/Property/Facilities management 
  • Technology/IT/Digital Transformation 
  • Have lived experience of caring for an ill or injured child or living in remote/rural communities. 
  • Reflect the diversity of the communities we serve, including those who identify as:  
  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander 
  • Culturally and Linguistically Diverse 
  • Person with a disability 
  • Female 
  • Member of the LGBTQIA+ community 

Commitment 

Board Director roles at RMHC SEQ are voluntary positions and require: 

  • A commitment to the minimum three year term with a maximum of six years. 
  • Preparation for and attendance at scheduled Board meetings (approximately 6–8 per year, typically Wednesday evenings 4-6pm)  
  • Member of Board Subcommittee (e.g. Finance Committee, Risk & Audit Committee) and preparation for and attendance at scheduled meetings (approximately 6 per year, typically evenings 4-6pm) 
  • Completion of mandatory compliance and training (Working with Children Check, Criminal history Check and annual online training) 
  • Participation in strategic planning, training and governance activities (approximately twice a year) 
  • Advocacy for RMHC SEQ within your networks and attendance at key Fundraising Events and activities

We are committed to keeping children and young people safe in our spaces and do not tolerate any kind of abuse. We implement prevention strategies to reduce the risk of abuse and actively seek to listen, empower, and protect children. Our team, including employees, volunteers and board, must meet high standards to ensure they prevent and report abuse. All roles are subject to compliance and reference checks and are subject to relevant state/territory legislation.
