Australian Diabetes Educators Association - Independent Director Vacancies
The Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) is seeking to appoint Independent Directors to its Board. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in:
- Finance
- Legal / Governance
- Marketing, Business Development and/or Commercial Strategy
About ADEA
ADEA’s vision is to transform lives through excellence in diabetes education. We are a not-for-profit member organisation and the national peak body for diabetes education and care in Australia. ADEA is also the regulatory body for the Credentialled Diabetes Educator profession.
ADEA has recently affiliated with Diabetes Australia and the Australian Diabetes Society to ensure a strong and united voice for people with diabetes and the health professionals who care for them. Together, we have developed unified strategic plans to advance our shared vision and mission.
Governance and Strategy
The ADEA Board is committed to sound, ethical and contemporary organisational governance. In recent years, ADEA has increased its focus on advocacy and strategic initiatives to ensure we are well positioned to support, promote and empower our members, and to lead and advocate for best-practice, person-centred diabetes education and care.
Board Composition and Commitment
The ADEA Board comprises of ten Directors, six of whom are ADEA members and four of whom are Independent Directors.
The ADEA office is located in Canberra; however, Directors are based across Australia. Board meetings are held six times per year, either online or in central locations, with additional video conferences scheduled as required.
Independent Directors are appointed for a three-year term, with the option to nominate for up to two further terms.
Skills and Experience Sought
Applicants should have senior-level experience and a strong understanding of corporate governance. Specific skill requirements sought include:
- Finance Director: Tertiary qualifications in finance, business or accounting, with recent experience in a senior financial and/or business management role. This role will ideally commence in February 2026.
- Legal Director: Tertiary qualifications in law, with experience in legal practice, regulatory environments, risk management and/or governance. This role will commence ideally commence in February 2026
- Marketing / Business / HR Director: Senior experience in marketing, recruitment, business development, commercial strategy, brand, growth or stakeholder engagement. This role will commence in August 2026 with the opportunity to attend Board meetings before to aide familiarlisation.
Experience within the not-for-profit, health, or member-based sectors will be highly regarded.
The position is an honorary appointment, but travel expenses are paid.
