The Venny is seeking a committed Chairperson who is passionate about social justice to lead our multi-skilled and experienced Board.
The Venny is a much-loved community organisation and registered charity that operates free communal backyards and safe spaces (also known as adventure or junkyard playgrounds) for disadvantaged children and the broader community in Kensington and Fitzroy. We also run pop-up play sessions at nearby public housing estates in Flemington and North Melbourne. The Venny provides spaces where children and young people can engage in risk-taking, unstructured and creative play and connect with others.
The Chairperson plays a critical role in ensuring the effective governance of The Venny. This includes providing strategic leadership, supporting the CEO, ensuring the board operates effectively, progressing the organisation’s mission, upholding its values, and compliance with legal obligations.
We welcome a first time Chair with previous Board/Governance experience as well as an experienced Chair. A background in community services, government or education will be highly regarded.
The Board meets bi-monthly in Kensington, with some engagement between meetings.
