Indie Education is seeking expressions of interest to join our national Board of Directors.
Indie Education is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing small-scale senior secondary school educational programs across six (6) Australian states for educationally ‘at risk’ young adults.
Established over 50 years, we have grown from being a small operation delivering adult and community education to a multi-million-dollar organisation with school campuses around Australia, from Far North Queensland to Hobart, Tasmania, and Sydney, NSW, to Perth, Western Australia.
Indie Education is a company limited by guarantee, a registered charity, and is governed by nine (9) directors representing each Australian state and with international connections. We are looking for experienced educational/business Australians known for their career success at board or senior management levels, with strong community connections, and ideally with educational, legal, community, and financial qualifications to fill a Board vacancy.
You will provide governance and strategic directions to our company. You will work to a collective Board understanding of the educational, legal, and financial compliance obligations of a not-for-profit organisation. Together with your informal and formal networks, you will assist Indie Education in our advocacy and impact to assist young adults to reengage in education/learning.
Details are:
- This is a voluntary position.
- Board appointments are for an initial two-year term with the option to re-stand for election for a further two terms.
- Ten scheduled Board meetings per year.
- Annual Board and Executive Management strategy planning workshop, usually over 2 days.
- Director costs are reimbursed.
Your key attributes:
- Ideally, as our new member, you will enhance the diversity of our Board in line with the numerous communities we support and strengthen the educational, legal and financial skills of our Board and subcommittees – Governance, and Finance Audit and Risk.
- In addition to the above, your work experience, skills and knowledge in the following areas will be important in our selection process:
- Executive/senior management experience in organisations of similar size and stage of growth as Indie Education.
- Experience within the fields of operations we cover including secondary education and as a registered training organisation.
- Ability to work with a team in a respectful, collegiate and collaborative manner.
