Surgical Education and Training Board of Neurosurgery

The Neurosurgical Society of Australasia (NSA) invites nominations for appointment of a Community Member to the Surgical Education and Training Board of Neurosurgery (SET Board).

This is a voluntary position. Expressions of interest close on 23 February 2026.

About the SET Board

The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia (NSA) have established a Specialty Training Board for the conduct and oversight of the Surgical Education and Training Program in Neurosurgery (the SET Training Program).

The purpose of the SET Board is to provide governance, oversight, and quality assurance of the SET Training Program in accordance with its approved Terms of Reference. 

About the role

The Community Member provides an independent, non clinical perspective to support effective governance, strategic oversight, and decision making in the public interest.

About the candidate

The NSA is seeking a person with a complementary skill set such as experience in any one of the following:

  • Educational design and assessment
  • Strategic planning
  • Risk management
  • Legal
  • Policy development
  • Leadership within charities, not for profit organisations, or community associations

Experience working with professional boards or member based organisations is highly desirable.

Time commitment

The role requires preparation for and attendance at approximately six meetings per year, comprising:

  • Three evening meetings by videoconference, typically 90 minutes in duration
  • Three face to face meetings, generally full day or half day meetings (one in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide during 2026)

Travel and accommodation will be provided where in person attendance is required for face to face meetings.
