The Sisterhood Project Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving child health literacy and access to lifesaving first aid and emergency education for parents and carers, with a strong focus on equity, accessibility, and community-led delivery across Australia.

We are seeking expressions of interest from committed, values-aligned individuals to join our voluntary Board of Directors.

As we enter our next phase of growth, we are looking to strengthen our board with additional skills and lived or professional experience that reflects the communities we serve—particularly rural and remote communities, low socio-economic areas, and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

About the Role

Board Directors provide strategic oversight, governance, and stewardship of The Sisterhood Project. Directors work collaboratively to support the organisation’s mission, ensure strong governance and financial sustainability, and guide long-term impact.

This is a voluntary (unpaid) position.

Skills and Experience Sought

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Information Technology / Digital Systems Digital strategy, data systems, cyber security, or technology governance

  • Fundraising and Revenue Development Philanthropy, grants, partnerships, corporate sponsorship, or social enterprise

  • Community Expertise Strong understanding of, or lived experience with:

    • Rural and remote communities

    • Low socio-economic communities

    • Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities

We welcome applicants with professional expertise, lived experience, or a combination of both.

What We’re Looking For

  • A commitment to equity, accessibility, and community-led approaches

  • An understanding of not-for-profit governance (or willingness to learn)

  • Strategic thinking with a practical, collaborative mindset

  • Ability to contribute time for board meetings and committee work

We strongly encourage expressions of interest from people who reflect the diversity of the communities we serve, including people from regional and rural areas and people from CALD backgrounds.

Time Commitment

  • Board meetings: approximately 6–8 per year (primarily virtual)

  • Additional time for preparation, strategic input, and committee participation as required
