Any further information about this vacancy:

Women and Mentoring (WAM) supports women and non-binary people who have had contact with the justice system through an early intervention, one-to-one mentoring program built on dignity, respect and hope.  Joining our Board is an opportunity to contribute to sustained, mission-led impact across Victoria, bringing both professional expertise and lived experience to the governance table.

As a Board member, you will work closely with a highly engaged Executive team, contribute to evidence-backed advocacy in the justice space, and help shape a model that is increasingly recognised by government and funders as part of the solution to women’s pathways into the justice system.

 Why Join WAM’s Board?

  • Play a key role in WAM’s next phase of sustained growth and development of our new strategic plan
  • Contribute to social justice, gender equity and community safety
  • Support a values-led, collaborative Board and Executive team partnership that centres accountability, impact and lived experience

We are seeking two Board Members to fill vacancies created by the scheduled end of tenure. Candidates may bring professional expertise, lived experience or both, and should demonstrate strength is one or more of the following areas:

  • Marketing and Communications (brand, digital, content, campaigns, media).
  • Human Resources/People & Culture (workforce strategy, WHS/psychosocial risk, organisational culture).
  • Research and/or Policy (justice, social impact, evaluation, advocacy).
  • Legal expertise (e.g., community, criminal, administrative, governance or NFP law).

We explicitly recognise lived and living experience of the justice system as a form of expertise that strengthens governance, strategy and accountability.  Applicants with lived experience may demonstrate leadership through community advocacy, peer leadership, policy contribution, program design, or other forms of influence and insight, alongside or instead of traditional professional pathways.

This role will suit people who are comfortable contributing to strategic oversight, risk management, and organisational sustainability, and who value collaborative decision-making grounded in real world impact.

We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience of the justice system, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people of colour, people with disability, and others whose perspectives reflect the communities WAM exists to serve.
