Spirit of Woman – The Memorial: The Place of Courage

About the Role

Spirit of Woman is seeking a Board Member with senior expertise in marketing, communications and cultural positioning to support The Memorial – The Place of Courage and the creation of Ripple installations across local council areas.

This is a unique governance opportunity to shape the national profile and cultural impact of a women’s memorial honouring those lost to domestic and family violence.

What We’re Seeking

We are looking for an individual who brings:

  • Senior experience in marketing, communications, brand or public affairs

  • A background in the arts, creative industries, public art or cultural institutions

  • A strong understanding of how art influences culture and public consciousness

  • Experience elevating organisational reputation and national profile

  • A respected public standing that strengthens the organisation’s visibility

The candidate does not need to reside in South Australia.

The Contribution

The successful Board Member will provide strategic oversight of:

  • Brand and narrative integrity

  • National communications and profile

  • Media and cultural partnerships

  • Positioning of the Memorial and Ripple installations as enduring cultural interventions

This role is for someone who understands that memorials shape memory, and memory shapes culture.

It is an opportunity to help guide a legacy project — ensuring the Memorial stands not only as a place of remembrance, but as a catalyst for reflection, dignity and lasting social impact.
