About FYA

The Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) exists to back young people. We provide the training, resources, and connections they need to create lasting change in the face of injustice. As the largest independent nonprofit dedicated to building the capacity, voice, and power of young changemakers, we work nationally with headquarters in Melbourne (Naarm) and teams based around the country.

Our work is guided by values of respect, equity, care, and impact. We are committed to shifting power to young people and building a future led by their vision.

About the FYA Board

FYA is governed by an elected Board of Directors who oversee the organisation’s strategic direction and performance. The Board is supported by subcommittees composed of Directors and subject-matter experts. To ensure young people are at the centre of our decision-making, the Board includes a number of Directors under the age of 26.

About the Finance and Audit Committee

The Finance and Audit Committee assists the FYA Board in meeting its legal and operational responsibilities by exercising due care, diligence, and skill in relation to financial management, audit processes, internal controls, statutory obligations, and the protection of assets.

The Committee oversees the annual audit process, reviews financial reporting and compliance, monitors income and expenditure, and provides input into contracts, commitments, and new opportunities. It also ensures effective risk management, cash flow oversight, and financial sustainability, while providing monthly reports and commentary to the Board.

What You’ll Do

As a Treasurer and Finance and Audit Committee Chair, your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to strategy-setting, resource allocation, and performance evaluation, providing financial advice on viability and risk.
  • Overseeing financial performance, investments, and risk compliance.
  • Chair and facilitate effective Finance and Audit Committee meetings and reporting rhythms.
  • Support and monitor the implementation of the budget.
  • Ensure financial sustainability, compliance and reporting.
  • Oversee and manage risk management frameworks.
  • Ensuring strong governance and compliance standards.
  • Safeguarding wellbeing and organisational culture, including FYA’s commitment to becoming an anti-racist organisation.

This application round will close 19 March 2026, with interviews to follow within the month.
