Brain Injury South Australia

For more than thirty years, Brain Injury SA (BISA) has worked to address the needs of people living with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) in South Australia by providing services, support, and advocacy.

Operating as a not-for-profit organisation, BISA's team of over 50 staff work across three hub locations to deliver on its mission to advocate for systemic change, help people navigate services and funding, and deliver specialist clinical services where our ABI expertise makes a genuine difference. Each year, BISA assists over 500 individuals and families.

BISA has experienced exciting growth over the last five years, doubling the number of clients it supports and continues to look for new opportunities to deliver on its vision.

About the Positions

As the organisation prepares to embark on a new strategic planning cycle in 2026-2030, it’s an exciting time to join the passionate, committed and skills-based Board as several members approach the end of their tenure.

BISA seeks to fill three Board vacancies and is particularly interested in applicants with skills and experience in:

  • Philanthropy/donations/marketing
  • Disability services delivery
  • Finance/accounting

As a Board Director, you will be responsible for providing governance and oversight of BISA’s operations in accordance with the law and constitution of the organisation. Specifically, this will include assisting with the overall performance of the Board, setting strategic direction, providing insights to relevant subcommittees, and working collaboratively with other Board members, the Chair, and the Organisation’s CEO.

About the People

A genuine affinity with BISA's purpose and vision, complemented by compassion, authenticity, and commercial acumen, are considered essential qualities to bring to the Board.

We seek experienced Board Member(s) and/or Executive(s) with a successful track record, ideally with exposure to the Not for Profit, Disability, Health, or Aged Care sectors. We welcome applicants with lived experience of brain injury or with the ability to demonstrate an appreciation of the issues impacting the brain injury community.

Board Member Criteria:

  • Prior Board and/or Committee experience is preferred.
  • Availability to attend Board meetings (10 per year), attendance of BISA events and Board Committees where required.
  • Demonstrated skills in strategic leadership, commercial acumen and change management.
  • Relevant governance qualifications (AICD) will be highly regarded.
  • Commitment to good governance practices, collaborative leadership and alignment with the vision and values or BISA.

This role is not currently remunerated; however, all related expenses will be paid.

We encourage you to consider fulfilling these governance opportunities, which will guide BISA and make a vital difference in the lives of the ABI community in SA.
