TUSA is seeking to appoint a new Board of Management Member, as the organisation moves into a new strategic phase and focus for 2026 and beyond.  

This is an opportunity for a professional who is passionate about supporting our university students and the broader local community, and to support our ambition to create positive impacts for the coming decades. We are seeking applicants with a diverse range of lived experiences and capabilities, with a preference for applicants with skills and expertise in Strategy and Partnerships.

The role of the Board is to provide leadership for and supervision over the Association’s governance and business affairs. The Board’s key functions are to:

a. advance the Association’s objects, purpose and mission;

b. ensure the Association is properly governed;

c. develop the Association’s strategic goals;

d. increase the Association’s value to members, stakeholders and society more broadly, in accordance with and furtherance of, the Purpose; and

e. fulfil any additional obligations of the Board, outlined within the Constitution.

In fulfilling its functions, the Board will monitor and determine:

a. the Association’s strategic framework and its short, medium, and long-term strategic goals;

b. policies governing the operations of the TUSA and the conduct of its members;

c. the Association’s risk management framework and risk appetite;

d. powers and functions of State Council, Board Committees, and other committees as may be established from time-to-time; and

e. annual progress and performance of the Association in implementing its strategic goals and objectives.

Exposure to community or social impact, major strategic projects or funds generation, and an understanding of the education sector, not-for-profit or commercial businesses is highly valued by the TUSA.  

Please note that TUSA Board positions are voluntary and unpaid. Reasonable reimbursement of costs is available. Meetings of the Board are held bimonthly, with the schedule beginning in February of each year. 

Appointment to the role will be for an initial period of three years. 

Applicants may be located anywhere in Tasmania, or local to the Rozelle (Sydney) campus of the University of Tasmania.
