Board Director Opportunity

Victorian Music Teachers’ Association

The Victorian Music Teachers’ Association (VMTA) invites expressions of interest from experienced professionals who are passionate about strengthening music education and supporting the work of independent music teachers across Victoria.

As the organisation continues to grow, VMTA is seeking Board Directors who can bring fresh strategic insight, diverse musical perspectives, and strong professional networks. We are particularly interested in individuals who have held senior leadership roles—such as CEO, Chair, or executive positions within professional or charitable organisations—and who are eager to contribute their experience to a dynamic arts community.

We welcome interest from candidates with a strong understanding of the value of music education and its broader benefits along with expertise in areas such as:

  • Government relations, policy development, and advocacy

  • Fundraising, philanthropy, and charitable programs

  • Entrepreneurship and strategic development

  • Public relations and communications

  • Building influential networks and key opinion leader groups

  • Community outreach and engagement

We are also keen to broaden representation across special needs music education, contemporary and jazz practice, and culturally diverse musical traditions, helping shape pathways for the next generation of music teachers and learners.

VMTA particularly encourages applications from members in regional Victoria who are ready to take an active role in governance, as well as those interested in contributing to future executive leadership within the Board.

Serving as a VMTA Board Director offers the opportunity to shape the future of music teaching in Victoria, strengthen advocacy for the profession, and expand the reach and impact of our community.
