WomenCAN Australia is on a mission to empower women to achieve financial independence through education and employment. To date, we have supported over 1,000 women connect to training and employment—women returning to work after caring responsibilities, victim-survivors of family violence, migrants and refugees, and those experiencing economic hardship—mainly in regional Victoria.
We’re here for change. Are you a values‑driven director who wants to help grow an evidence-based model that delivers real financial security for women?
Due to the retirement of two long-serving directors, we are currently recruiting for our volunteer skills-based board. Our board-
- Is committed to improving gender equality and women’s empowerment,
- Manages CEO performance, sets and oversees strategy, growth and impact,
- Oversees finance, risk, governance and regulatory requirements,
- Actively fundraises and promotes WomenCAN Australia, and
- Has a leadership mindset to build a great culture.
We are seeking new directors who ideally offer skills and experience in two or more of the following areas:
- systemic change, philanthropy and fundraising, government relations and advocacy, risk management, advanced legal and governance skills, audit and financial management, IT, privacy and data security, social enterprise management and leadership, impact measurement, strategic communications, or industry experience in our focus sectors and particularly from non-traditional female vocations / employment pathways.
We welcome strong candidates without board experience. You will be assessed on your professional background and the specific skills sought.
We strongly encourage applications from women in regional Victoria, women from diverse cultural backgrounds, refugees, and women with lived experience. Our board meets every 6–8 weeks (online options available).
Email contact@womencanaustralia.org with any questions or to obtain a position description.
Applications close Monday 6th April 2026
