About Zambia’s Child
Zambia’s Child (ZC) is a non‑denominational Christian organisation based in Sydney, NSW. Our mission is to transform vulnerable communities in Zambia through quality, Christ-centred education, and community development activities. We serve children who face the daily realities of poverty—limited access to schooling, food insecurity, and few pathways to a better future. For these children, education is not simply a classroom experience; it is the doorway to dignity, opportunity, and long‑term change.
We run Ipalo Christian School and support over 400 primary and secondary students in Chingola, Zambia. We also support Manuel Community School in nearby Kitwe. We employ 54 local Zambian staff, including the Principal, teachers, a social worker, agriculturalists, nurse, accountant, teachers’ aids and other support staff – who provide not only education but also care, stability, and Christian hope to children who need it most.
In 2013, Zambia’s Child acquired land to build Ipalo Christian School on the outskirts of Chingola. What began as a vision has grown through six stages of construction, with Stage 6 completed in December 2022. Additional land has been secured for agricultural development, strengthening long‑term sustainability and creating hands‑on learning opportunities for students and the community. Further land purchases are planned for 2026 as we continue to expand the school’s capacity and impact.
Zambia’s Child is now entering a new phase of growth. To meet the increasing needs of the children and communities we serve, we are strengthening and expanding our fundraising capability. This new Committee role is a key part of that journey—helping us reach more children, deepen our impact, and continue transforming lives through the power of education.
The Role
Zambia’s Child is seeking a Fundraising Specialist & Committee Member (Volunteer) to lead and take our fundraising efforts to the next level. This role is central to supporting the organisation’s next stage of growth and ensuring long‑term financial sustainability.
This role will:
- Lead the development and implementation of a multi‑year fundraising strategy.
- Design and run fundraising campaigns, including annual appeals, matched giving, major donor initiatives, and potential bequest programs.
- Oversee selective grant applications (Australian foundations, church mission funds).
- Develop and strengthen partnerships with Churches, corporates, and aligned networks.
- Lead key fundraising events (annual dinner, trivia night, movie night), supported by our team.
- Enhance digital fundraising through email, social media, and website optimisation.
- Improve the use of our CRM to support segmentation, donor insights, and campaign performance.
- Establish and chair a Fundraising Subcommittee as the organisation grows.
This is a strategic, hands‑on role suited to someone who can build systems, shape direction, and help Zambia’s Child think bigger in its fundraising approach.
Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate is:
- Experienced in fundraising, with knowledge of current best practice across campaigns, digital fundraising, and partnerships.
- Passionate about alleviating poverty through education and committed to ethical, child‑safe fundraising practices.
- Comfortable working with CRM systems and data‑driven fundraising.
- Skilled in marketing, communications, or relationship development.
- Well‑connected, with networks that may support fundraising growth.
- A team player who can collaborate with volunteers and emerging administrative staff.
We welcome applicants with a generalist background who bring initiative, creativity, and a willingness to learn.
Zambia’s Child is a Christian organisation. Committee Members are required to support and uphold the Christian mission, values, and ethos of the organisation. Alignment with our Christian purpose is an inherent requirement of this governance role. Committee Members are required to sign the Christian Ethos, Safeguarding & Governance Commitment as part of their appointment and become members of the Association (joining fee $20, annual membership $10).
General Responsibilities of a Committee Member
- Attend monthly Committee meetings (typically held via Zoom) and contribute to governance discussions.
- Present and comment on fundraising plans, performance, and opportunities.
- Participate in strategic planning and organisational development.
- Support the organisation’s commitment to child safety and poverty‑alleviation best practice.
Visiting the Project
Many Committee members have, at their cost, travelled to Zambia to visit Ipalo Christian School and meet the local team. Such visits will deepen understanding and passion for the ministry.
A short visit costs approximately $6,000 (travel, accommodation, food). This role may find value in meeting local staff, understanding the context for storytelling, and strengthening relationships that support fundraising.
Time Commitment
- Monthly Committee meetings.
- Additional work as required, with a higher workload in the first 6–12 months as systems and strategy are established.
- Seasonal peaks around major events and annual appeals.
- Flexibility to work remotely and at times that suit the volunteer.
