Volunteer Board Director x 2

The John Fawcett Foundation Australia

  • Volunteer Board Position
  • WA-based preferred & remote if required
  • Roles: Legal & Governance Lead + Fundraising & Development Lead

This is an exciting time to join the Board of a humanitarian organisation to help shape the Foundation's future and restore sight to those in need throughout Indonesia.

Shape the Future of Sight: Strategic Board Appointments

In the words of the Foundation’s late founder, "They are blind because they are poor, and they are poor because they are blind. Help us break this cycle."

The John Fawcett Foundation (JFF) has spent over 35 years restoring sight, independence, dignity, and quality of life free of charge to those in the greatest need throughout Indonesia.

Since 1991, the Foundation has:

  • Provided eye screening to approx. 1.4 million people who were otherwise unable to afford eye health services
  • Distributed more than 660,000 pairs of glasses and even more eye medications
  • Provided more than 76,000 cataract surgeries via mobile surgical clinics
  • As well as more than 1,400 prosthetic eyes

The Foundation team is mobile and provides its services to financially disadvantaged communities in need. For more information, visit https://johnfawcett.org/

With a stable, cohesive board in place, the Foundation is moving into a new phase of service delivery and organisational change. This is a unique opportunity to be part of the Foundation’s future.

We are not just filling seats; we are strategically building governance capacity to navigate a digital, global, and complex nonprofit landscape. We invite two visionary leaders to join our Board and lead this transformation.

The Board Position Roles

  1. Legal & Governance Lead

The Guardian of Integrity

Following the retirement of our long-standing legal lead, we need an expert to oversee our cross-border governance.

  • The Mission: Guide our operations across Australia and Indonesia, ensuring we remain at the forefront of international charity compliance.
  • Ideal Profile: You are likely a senior lawyer with expertise in areas such as charity law, contract law, strong NFP governance practices, or a former ACNC executive.
  1. Fundraising & Development Lead

The Architect of Sustainability

We are moving beyond reactive fundraising toward a sophisticated, sustainable revenue model.

  • The Mission: Collaborate with our new marketing function to lead major gift cultivation, corporate partnerships, and innovative grant strategies.
  • Ideal Profile: You are an ASX100 partnerships executive, a former Development Director from a major NGO, or an established philanthropist with deep networks.

The Impact

  • Direct Contribution: Your strategic decisions will directly facilitate more sight-restoring surgeries.
  • Governance Innovation: Help us pilot the "co-opting" of experts into our sub-committees to build a pipeline of future leaders.
  • Legacy: Establish the strategic precedent that will serve the Foundation—and thousands of patients—for years to come.

Commitment: The Board meets quarterly, with one meeting held in Bali each year and interim informal meetings as required. In addition, there are various working committees and other general director responsibilities. Although it is a voluntary board, it is well supported by a Foundation Administrator for operational activities.

How to Apply

This is a voluntary leadership role for those who believe that "a momentary act of kindness leads to a lifetime of relief".

TO APPLY:

Please submit your expression of interest via email to: hr@johnfawcett.org (Please note that only EOI sent to the email address provided will be reviewed.)
