About the Peter Cowan Writers Centre
Peter Cowan Writers Centre is a longstanding, volunteer run Incorporated Association and not-for-profit organisation committed to fostering the craft of writing as well as creativity, community, and lifelong learning.
Peter Cowan Writers Centre provides workshops, mentoring, events, and a welcoming space for emerging and established writers across Western Australia.
The Role
The Treasurer is a volunteer governance role and contributes to sound financial stewardship, transparent reporting, and informed decision-making to ensure legal, financial, and operational obligations are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Support effective financial management and good governance
- Manage accounts payable and receivable
- Manage the Association’s accounting records
- Have custody of all securities, books and documents of a financial nature
- Lead financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
- Present financial reports and recommendations to the Management Committee as required
- Contribute to improvements in financial processes and systems
- Uphold all legal requirements, including those under the Associations Incorporated Act, PCWC Constitution and ACNC governance standards.
Requirements
Essential
- CA or CPA qualification, or equivalent
- Experience in management accounting, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
- Ability to communicate financial insights clearly to non‑finance stakeholders
- Strong Excel and analytical skills.
- Commitment to ethical governance, transparency, and the responsibilities of an ACNC Responsible Person
- Current Police Clearance Certificate, or willingness to do this prior to appointment
- Current membership of PCWC, or willingness to do this prior to appointment
Desirable
- Experience with not‑for‑profit or community‑based organisations
- Understanding of financial requirements for registered charities
- Familiarity with small‑organisation financial systems and processes, including Xero
- Experience working at Board-level.
