Gnarly Neighbours is a grassroots, youth-led not-for-profit and social enterprise based in Seymour, Victoria.
What started as a few locals backing young people at the skatepark has grown into a working model for early intervention and community change. Today, Gnarly Neighbours operates The Neighbourhood, a youth space made up of a café, indoor skatepark, skate store, print shop, and program area. It is a place where young people can show up, feel safe, and build confidence, skills, and pathways into employment and community.
We work alongside young people through skateboarding, creativity, mentoring, and wellbeing support, with a strong focus on prevention, connection, and real opportunities before things reach crisis point. Young people are not just participants. They are employed, trained, and supported across all areas of the social enterprise, with all profits reinvested back into free programs and support.
Gnarly Neighbours has grown significantly in recent years and has now outgrown the board structure that was originally in place. We are entering a new phase and are looking to build the right board and governance structure to support our continued growth, impact, scalability and sustainability.
We are seeking board members who can help guide this next stage with strong governance, lived experience, and a genuine commitment to youth-led, community-driven work. We are particularly interested in people with experience in governance, finance, legal, social enterprise, youth services, or community development, as well as people who bring diverse lived experience and strong community connection.
Board members will play a key role in shaping strategic direction, strengthening governance, and helping ensure the organisation remains sustainable while staying true to its grassroots values.
This is an opportunity to contribute to something real and locally grounded, where the impact is visible every day.
