Express an Interest

Targeting:

The Moreton Bay Montessori Association (MBMA) Incorporated, the governing body of the Caboolture Montessori School, invites expressions of interest to join the Board. 

Caboolture Montessori School offers significant differences to the traditional context of learning and teaching, placing the student at the centre of their education. Fully aligned with the Australian National Curriculum, we proudly educate close to 280 primary students in the Moreton Bay region of Brisbane, enabling them to become confident independent thinkers entirely capable of dealing with a rapidly changing world.    

The Board comprises up to seven people drawn from a range of expertise and backgrounds that preferably reflects the diversity of our school community. Areas of expertise required include education, finance, project management, business management, government relations, and strategic expertise. 

The Board meets seven times a year, preferably face to face, and in addition it is anticipated that Board members would participate in one day Strategic Planning Day.

Required skills and experience 

As part of our ongoing commitment to strong and effective governance, we are especially seeking new Board Members with expertise in: 

• Demonstrated leadership to achieve strategic objectives 
• Management experience, either leading a team or workwithin a collaborative team with a focus on operational concerns 
• Governance experience especially in not-for-profit organisations 
• An understanding ofeducational challenges  
• An interest inlearning about ongoing business operations  
• Demonstrable success collaborating withother like-minded people to collectively support the continued growth and achievement of strategic goals. 

NOTE: To join the Board, you must hold a valid or obtain a Blue Card for people who work with children.  

Board Responsibilities 

As a Board Member of an incorporated association, you will need to give serious attention to board responsibilities. You will need to be willing and able to: 

• Give adequate time in preparation for board meetings
• Engagewith issues affecting effects school governance to agree a considered way forward 
• Gain educational and financial literacyappropriate to the role 
• Become familiar with core governance documents
• Participatein decision-making through diplomatic agreement 
• Maintainappropriate confidentiality, particularly with other members of the School community 

Time commitment and remuneration  

We meet seven times throughout the year on a Monday evening. Board meetings are scheduled for two and a half hours and require 2-3 hours of preparation by reading developed material to be discussed at the meeting.  

In between board meetings, we communicate over email and phone, providing advice to management, collaborating on issues, and matters that require the Board to come to an agreed position. The time commitment varies from a few minutes to 30 minutes/week. Our Board is voluntary and unpaid, but it will provide you will an excellent opportunity to provide input on strategic governance of the school.
