Board Director – Skills-Based Appointment:

Community Transport Services Tasmania Ltd is inviting expressions of interest from candidates with skills and experience across three identified capability areas for potential appointment to the Board as skills-based Directors.

This opportunity arises at a significant point in CTST’s growth, following the recent merger with Mersey Community Care Association and the continued expansion of community and home support services across Tasmania.

As a not-for-profit charitable organisation, CTST provides transport, home maintenance, social support, disability services and domestic assistance to older Tasmanians and individuals with health or mobility limitations. Operating statewide, CTST is supported by a workforce of more than 500 staff and volunteers, a fleet of over 100 vehicles, and a clear vision: Everyone has access to excellent transport and care.

Skills and Experience Sought

CTST is seeking candidates who can contribute strategic leadership, governance capability and sector expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Legal and Governance
  • Aged Care and/or Community Transport, Logistics or related sectors
  • Marketing, Communications and Stakeholder Engagement

Applications are strongly encouraged from candidates across Tasmania, including the North, North West and South regions, and from individuals of diverse backgrounds and communities.

Prior Board or governance experience is desirable, but not essential. Completion of, or progress towards, the Company Directors Course delivered by the Australian Institute of Company Directors would be highly regarded.

About the Role

  • Term: Three-year renewable term (maximum nine years)
  • Remuneration: Sitting fees apply for Board and Committee meetings, plus travel reimbursements
  • Commitment: Six formal meetings per year (typically in person and bi-monthly), with additional engagement through subcommittees and strategic workshops
  • Travel: CTST is a statewide organisation. While most meetings are held at the Glenorchy Office, Directors may occasionally be required to travel within Tasmania to attend meetings at regional offices and support events across the state

Selection Criteria

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Contribute meaningfully to Board-level discussions, strategic planning and organisational oversight
  • Support strong governance, risk management and regulatory compliance obligations
  • Demonstrate experience within not-for-profit, community services, government, or other regulated sectors
  • Commit to the duties and responsibilities outlined in CTST’s Constitution, Board Position Description and relevant policies
  • Act with professionalism, integrity and alignment to CTST’s values and purpose

Applicants must meet relevant compliance and governance requirements associated with the role, including:

  • Working with Vulnerable People registration
  • Director ID obligations
  • National Police Checks
  • Insolvency and probity checks
