About Us

Equestrian Victoria is the peak State Sporting Organisation (SSO) responsible for the administration, development, and governance of equestrian sports across Victoria. Representing over 200 affiliated clubs and thousands of active athletes, coaches, and officials, EV operates dynamic programs across multiple disciplines (including Dressage, Jumping, Eventing, Show Horse and Interschools) and manages major sporting events at the Werribee Park State Equestrian Centre.

Position Purpose

We are seeking an experienced corporate governance or financial professional to step into the crucial role of Independent Chair for our Finance, Risk, and Audit Committee (FRAC).

The FRAC plays a vital role in providing independent and objective oversight to the Equestrian Victoria Board. As Independent Chair, you will lead the committee in monitoring financial reporting integrity, guiding robust risk identification frameworks, overseeing external audit compliance, and ensuring alignment with state sports integrity frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Committee Leadership: Structure agendas, facilitate constructive discussions, and lead quarterly FRAC meetings with complete impartiality.
  • Financial Oversight: Monitor budget performance, review quarterly financial statements, and oversee the integrity of EV’s annual financial reports prior to Board sign-off.
  • Risk & Integrity Management: Provide oversight on strategic risks unique to the sporting sector, including child safety compliance (Victorian Child Safe Standards), volunteer insurance, public liability, and data protection.
  • Audit Liaison: Serve as the objective point of connection between EV management, the Board, and independent external auditors.
  • Strategic Reporting: Deliver formal, clear, and actionable risk and financial briefings directly to the Equestrian Victoria Board.

Mandatory Independence Criteria

To preserve absolute objectivity, the successful applicant must meet the strict definition of an Independent Committee Member:

  • Must not be a current or recent employee, Director, or executive officer of Equestrian Victoria.
  • Must not hold an official executive or management position (e.g., President, Treasurer) within any affiliated regional clubs, breed societies, or peak member bodies.
  • Must not have a material commercial relationship, sponsorship deal, or supply agreement with Equestrian Victoria.
  • Must not be a member of Equestrian Victoria or any club or affiliate.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Financial Acumen: Formal accounting or audit qualifications (CA or CPA holding current professional membership) are highly desirable.
  • Governance Experience: Direct experience as a board member, director, or member of an audit, finance, and risk committee.
  • Sector Knowledge: A strong understanding of not-for-profit accounting principles, statutory financial reporting, and Victorian Government funding/grant acquittals.
  • Compliance Checks: Holding or willingness to obtain a valid Victorian Working with Children Check (WWCC) and a satisfactory National Police Check.

Diversity and Inclusion

In alignment with the Victorian Government’s Balance the Board Policy, Equestrian Victoria is committed to fostering diversity and gender equity across our leadership groups and sub-committees. We strongly encourage expressions of interest from qualified women and individuals of all backgrounds.
