About the Organisation

Transfolk WA is a not-for-profit, peer support organisation with a vision that all trans and gender diverse people are valued and empowered members of communities. Incorporated in 2017, Transfolk WA’s purpose is to inform, empower and advocate for trans and gender diverse people to survive and thrive in Western Australia. We provide support services, community spaces, advocacy, education and training, events and continue to expand our services and reach to best serve our community.

About the Role

We are seeking committed, community‑minded individuals to join our Governance & Risk Committee. This committee supports the Board by strengthening governance, compliance and organisational risk oversight as Transfolk WA expands its programs and impact.

We welcome applicants with skills or lived experience in governance, legal matters or risk management. Trans and gender diverse people, First Nations people and those building governance experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support good governance, compliance and risk management
  • Participate in quarterly committee meetings
  • Provide insights from your professional expertise or lived experience
  • Strengthen organisational systems, policies and accountability

Experience & Capabilities

Essential:

  • Commitment to Transfolk WA’s purpose and values
  • Understanding of community‑led or not‑for‑profit work
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Desirable:

  • Lived experience as trans or gender diverse
  • Governance, legal or risk management experience

Commitment

Approx. 1-2 hours per month, including meeting preparation and participation once a quarter.
