About SHINE
Shine Inspire Achieve Belong (SHINE) is a Western Australian not‑for‑profit organisation with a clear vision: strong women and thriving communities.Our purpose is accelerating change for girls, and our mission is to support, educate and empower girls with the skills to thrive.
The Board provides strategic leadership, governance and stewardship to ensure SHINE delivers high‑quality programs and maintains healthy, positive and respectful relationships with our schools, communities, funding bodies and partners.
We are seeking committed volunteers to join the SHINE Board, including:

Ordinary Board Members (general members).Office bearers: Chair, Deputy Chair, Secretary and Treasurer (to be appointed from among Board members).
Board members are appointed as volunteers and are based in Western Australia, with meetings scheduled via an annual Board calendar and a mix of in‑person and online attendance.
What Board Members Do
All Board members:
-
Provide strategic direction and oversight of SHINE’s programs, finances and risk.

Act in the interests of SHINE as a whole, bringing independent judgement to Board decisions.

Uphold SHINE’s Code of Conduct, demonstrating integrity, impartiality, honesty and respect.

Use Board meetings as the primary forum for discussion and decision‑making, acting with due care and diligence.

Represent SHINE’s mission and values to members, donors, beneficiaries, community partners and government stakeholders.
Board and committee members are expected to demonstrate their commitment through regular attendance at meetings (online participation is treated as equivalent to in‑person attendance).
What We’re Looking For
We welcome expressions of interest from people who:
-
Are passionate about improving outcomes for girls, women and communities.

Can commit to regular Board meeting attendance, with notice of any unavoidable absences.

Demonstrate personal integrity, ethical behaviour and respect for people from diverse backgrounds.

Are comfortable working within a formal governance framework, including handling confidential information appropriately and managing conflicts of interest in line with policy.
For Ordinary Board Members and office‑bearers, the following are desirable:
-
Tertiary or vocational qualifications in disciplines such as education, social work, health, accounting or similar, or equivalent experience in these areas.

Leadership and management experience in community services, education or not‑for‑profit organisations.

Capacity to act strategically and exercise a high level of decision‑making.

Experience liaising with funding bodies and sponsors, identifying funding opportunities and managing relationships with external stakeholders, including community organisations, businesses and government.

All Board members are expected to obtain a Director ID and a Department of Education Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check
