Any further information about this vacancy:

The West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) is seeking an experienced finance professional to join its Board as Treasurer.

WAYJO is one of Western Australia’s leading youth arts organisations, creating outstanding musical experiences through performance, education and community engagement. We provide young musicians from diverse backgrounds with opportunities to develop their skills, build confidence and perform in a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your financial and commercial expertise to an organisation that makes a genuine difference in the lives of young people.

As Treasurer, you will work closely with an experienced and committed Board and WAYJO’s leadership team to support the organisation’s financial sustainability, governance and strategic direction. You will provide oversight of financial reporting, budgeting and compliance, contribute to Board decision-making, and participate in the Finance Committee.

The role offers valuable experience in:

• Not-for-profit and arts-sector governance

• Strategic financial oversight and Board decision-making

• Working collaboratively with experienced directors and senior management

• Supporting a respected Western Australian cultural organisation

• Helping shape opportunities for the next generation of musicians

We are looking for someone with:

• Relevant financial, accounting or commercial expertise

• Sound judgement and a strong understanding of financial governance

• A collaborative and practical approach

• An interest in the arts, music, education or youth development

• A willingness to actively contribute to WAYJO’s purpose and future

Previous Board experience is welcomed but is not essential. This role could also be an excellent opportunity for a senior finance professional seeking to build or broaden their Board and governance experience while being supported by an experienced Board.

This is a voluntary position. The Board meets approximately six times each year, and the Treasurer also participates in Finance Committee meetings. Board members are encouraged to attend a number of WAYJO concerts and public events throughout the year.

WAYJO welcomes expressions of interest from people of diverse backgrounds and lived experience, including people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities and people with disability.

Expressions of Interest close 31 August 2026.

To express your interest or request further information, please contact WAYJO General Manager Monique Douglas at monique.douglas@wayjo.com.

Please share this opportunity with anyone who may be interested in using their expertise to support young people through the power of music.
