About our Organisation
Advocacy for Disability Access and Inclusion (ADAI) is a proud South Australian organisation that has provided independent advocacy services to South Australians with disability, their families and carers for over thirty years.
ADAI provides advocacy services in Adelaide and regional South Australia from offices in Mount Gambier, Port Augusta and Berri, and outreach clinics to different locations around SA such as Kangaroo Island, Port Lincoln and the Yorke Peninsula.
Our regular monthly outreach clinics at Elizabeth, Port Adelaide, Noarlunga and North Adelaide are available for information, advice and referral to our services.
Vision
We support individuals living with disability to build their capacity to represent themselves and fully participate in decision making that affects their lives.
Purpose
We advocate to promote and strengthen autonomy and self-determination for people living with disability, their families and carers through the provision of quality, professional, issues-based advocacy services.
Selection Criteria
ADAI are seeking multiple experienced volunteer Non-Executive Directors to join its Board at an exciting stage of growth. We are particularly keen to receive expressions of interest from candidates who will add diversity of thought, commitment to equity, inclusion and ethical leadership and experience to our Board.
As a Non-Executive Director, you will provide independent oversight, strategic guidance and expertise to the organisation. The Board provides support to the CEO and staff in accordance with the constitution. It ensures ADAI complies with the ACNC, South Australian and Australian government acts and regulations.
Advocacy for Disability Access and Inclusion has a minimum of five to a maximum of nine Directors and seeks to broaden its skills base with the following skill sets:
– Financial expertise leadership as either an Accountant or Chief Financial Officer, demonstrating the ability to interpret financial information, including financial sustainability and controls.
– A Qualified Legal practitioner who may or may not be still practicing but can add significant expertise to the Board.
– A strong Marketing background with experience in the Not-for-Profit sector.
- A Management background with knowledge and experience working in the disability sector with a strong understanding of the NDIS.
Ideally, all candidates should have sound corporate governance knowledge of Directors duties and responsibilities, along with a sound understanding of financial reporting, risk management and a willingness to contribute to Board Committees also. Candidates living with disability or lived experience, are strongly encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
-AICD (Australian Institute of Company Directors) qualification preferred, but not essential.
-A professional qualification in a relevant field would be highly regarded, but not essential.
