Founding Vice-President – The Woodley Rose Project
The Woodley Rose Project is a developing Victorian community-led not-for-profit being established to support men and their children affected by family and domestic violence.
We are seeking an experienced, collaborative and values-driven Founding Vice-President to join our founding committee and help establish strong governance, strategic direction and organisational oversight from the beginning.
The Project is preparing an initial 12-month pilot across Gippsland and the Grampians. The pilot aims to directly support at least 100 men/family units, with a stretch target of 200, while reaching at least 2,000 people through information, community awareness, outreach and referral promotion.
The pilot will provide safe intake, information, warm referrals, help navigating services and forms, limited practical and material assistance and consent-based follow-up.
The role
The Vice-President will work closely with the Founder and President, Secretary, Treasurer and other committee members to support effective governance and the responsible development of the organisation.
Responsibilities may include:
- supporting the President in providing leadership to the Committee;
- chairing meetings when the President is unavailable;
- helping ensure Committee decisions remain focused on the organisation’s charitable purposes;
- contributing to strategic planning, governance and risk oversight;
- supporting the development and review of policies, procedures and organisational priorities;
- helping maintain appropriate boundaries between governance and day-to-day operations;
- contributing to partnership, stakeholder and community relationships;
- supporting effective Committee decision-making and accountability;
- helping identify emerging organisational, safeguarding, financial and reputational risks;
- supporting succession planning and the development of a strong, diverse Committee; and
- acting as an additional senior governance contact when appropriate.
Who we are looking for
We welcome applicants with experience in areas such as:
- not-for-profit or community-sector governance;
- board or committee leadership;
- family violence, safeguarding or human services;
- organisational development;
- strategy and risk management;
- community development;
- public policy or advocacy;
- legal, health, social-services or related professional fields;
- regional community leadership; or
- senior management or executive roles.
Previous experience as a Vice-President, Deputy Chair, Chair or board member would be valuable, but applicants with strong transferable leadership and governance experience are also encouraged.
The successful person should be able to work constructively with others, ask appropriate questions, exercise independent judgement and support a culture of transparency, respect and accountability.
Role relationship
The Vice-President is a governance role and is intended to support rather than replace the President.
The role does not carry independent authority to make major organisational, financial, staffing, contractual or service decisions unless that authority has been formally delegated by the Committee.
All Committee members share responsibility for acting in the best interests of the organisation and furthering its charitable purposes.
Commitment
This is an unpaid honorary governance position.
Committee meetings are expected to occur approximately monthly, primarily online, making participation possible from across Victoria.
Approximately 2–4 hours per month is anticipated, although additional involvement may be required during incorporation, establishment and development of the initial pilot.
Relevant lived experience is valued but is not required, and applicants will never be expected to publicly disclose personal experiences.
Applicants of all genders and backgrounds are welcome. Regional Victorian applicants are particularly encouraged.
The Woodley Rose Project is currently completing its incorporation, governance and charity-registration preparations.
Beyond Violence, Toward Hope.
