Board Member Sought — Gilbert & Sullivan Society of SA
The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of SA is seeking an expression of interest from a suitably experienced professional to join its Board of Management through to the Society's next AGM in April 2027.
About the Society
Formed in 1937, the Society is one of Adelaide's longest-running community theatre groups, staging two major productions a year. What began as Gilbert & Sullivan excerpts has grown into a broad repertoire spanning classic operetta, golden-age musicals like My Fair Lady and Oklahoma!, and modern works including Les Misérables, Kinky Boots, and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. The Society is entirely self-funding and volunteer-run, receives no government funding, and is proud of its role in developing young and emerging artists alongside performers of national and international standing.
The Role
This is a genuine governance role, well suited to someone looking to build board experience or contribute their professional skills to the not-for-profit arts sector. The Board is responsible for the Society's strategic direction, financial oversight, compliance, and risk management - the decisions that keep the organisation sustainable for the long term.
We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Finance or business management
- Governance
- Fundraising
Beyond specific skills, we're looking for someone who can act in the best interests of the organisation as a whole, contribute collaboratively, and commit to preparing for and attending Board meetings.
No prior involvement with the Society or musical theatre background is required - we welcome interest from anyone with relevant professional experience who is drawn to supporting the arts.
