Help shape the future of community and aged care services in Sydney

Sydney Community Services (SCS) is a community-based not-for-profit organisation dedicated to strengthening communities across Sydney's Lower North Shore and surrounding regions. We provide a broad range of services that support older people, people with disability, children and families to live well, stay connected and participate fully in community life. With a long history of delivering high-quality, person-centred services, SCS plays a vital role in promoting inclusion, independence, resilience and wellbeing for the people we support.

As part of our Board renewal and succession planning, we are seeking to appoint a new Director to join our skills-based Board. This is a voluntary role.

We are a registered Aged Care Provider. Seeking a board director with Aged Care Expertise.

Board Commitment

  • Approximately six in-person Board meetings per year
  • Board meetings are held at our Lane Cove office on Tuesday mornings, and directors are expected to attend regularly
  • Participation on at least one Board Committee
  • Attendance at strategic planning and governance development activities

We seek candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Aged care and community services
  • Leadership of quality, risk and compliance in a care-based organisation. 
  • Service redesign and organisational improvement

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Strategic thinking and sound judgment
  • Team skills ability to work in a team setting and offer constructive points of view
  • An understanding of governance and director responsibilities
  • A commitment to the SCS’ mission, community impact and social outcomes
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills

Eligibility Requirements  

It is essential that board directors meet these three eligibility requirements:

  • Able to attend meetings in person – in Lane Cove, Sydney, including Board Meetings on Tuesday mornings.
  • Time available to prepare fully for meetings, attend committee meetings, training, annual workshop, and engage with community activities
  • Willing to undertake all required governance training, compliance checks, and screening requirements
