See the full position description and further information about the role here

UN Youth Australia is a youth-led organisation that brings young people, community and global leaders together to equip the next generation of young leaders with the skills and inspiration to create meaningful change.

We're seeking two Independent Directors aged 18–25 who bring an external perspective and strong judgement. We’re especially interested in those with experience in finance, law, HR, risk management, or diversity and inclusion. Most importantly, we want people excited to help a youth charity and who learn quickly.

What you'll do

  • Attend monthly Board meetings and an annual Board Action Weekend (likely January 2027)
  • Join up to two Board committees (Diversity & Inclusion, Finance & Foundation, Governance & Development, HR, or Audit & Risk)—you may also chair one.
  • Review board papers, contribute to strategy, and help oversee the National Executive
  • Offer an outside perspective to help guide better decisions

Who we're looking for

You don’t need governance experience, but you must have:

  • Be aged 18–25 (inclusive) as of 25 October 2026
  • Be eligible to be a company director under Australian law
  • Meet independence criteria under UN Youth Australia's National Bylaws (haven’t been a Division Officer, National Staff, or Divisional Representative Director in the last two years)
  • Be eligible for Associate Membership of a UN Youth Australia Division
  • Be eligible to hold a Working with Children Check (or state/territory equivalent)

We strongly encourage applications from women; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; people with disability; people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds; and LGBTQ+ people.
