About Us:
Illawarra Women’s Health Centre provides free or low-cost medical, allied, and complementary health care to women in the Illawarra region. We are committed to empowering women and promoting gender equality through comprehensive health services, community engagement, and advocacy.
The Role:
As a volunteer Non-Executive Director, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our organisation through strong governance, strategic leadership, and financial oversight. We are seeking a financially astute professional who can bring independent judgement, commercial insight, and a commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of women in our community.
This position is ideally suited to an experienced finance, accounting, banking, audit, risk, or commercial professional who is passionate about using their expertise to make a meaningful difference. You will work closely with the Board and leadership team to oversee financial performance, strengthen risk management frameworks, safeguard the organisation's financial sustainability, and support sound decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic oversight and ensure the organisation’s focus on its mission.
- Oversee financial performance and provide expert oversight of budgeting, cashflow, reserves, and long-term financial strategy.
- Identify and manage risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
- Act as an ambassador for the organisation, promoting its services and advocating for women's health issues.
- Promote our Centre and the support available to women by raising social awareness through fundraising, marketing, or business development.
- Work collaboratively with other board members and the executive team.
- Support the Board in overseeing audit, risk management, regulatory compliance, and financial governance frameworks.
What We Are Looking For:
- Strong financial leadership experience in senior finance, accounting, banking, audit, risk, or governance roles.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial oversight, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cashflow management, and organisational sustainability.
- Experience serving on a Board, Finance Committee, Audit & Risk Committee, or in an executive leadership position with financial accountability.
- Understanding of not-for-profit financial governance, funding models, grant management, acquittals, and compliance obligations.
- Professional qualifications such as CA, CPA, banking, treasury, accounting, audit, or related finance credentials would be highly regarded.
- Strong understanding of the not-for-profit sector and/or women's health issues.
- Commitment to promoting gender equality and women's health.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to think strategically and contribute to high-level decision-making.
- Able to attend monthly face-to-face meetings.
Why Join Us?
- Make a meaningful impact on women's health and well-being.
- Work alongside a passionate and experienced Board, leadership team, and staff committed to improving women’s health and wellbeing.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of a leading not-for-profit organisation.
- Opportunity for personal and professional growth.
