Position Description - Board Member (School Partnerships Focus)

Location: Remote (NSW-based candidates preferred)

Time Commitment: Approx. 5–10 hours per month (including quarterly board meetings andcheck in calls)

Term: 2 years, with potential for renewal

Remuneration: Voluntary (expenses may be reimbursed)

About OIC Australia

OIC Australia is a registered Australian charity that exists to support the mission of OIC Cambodia - to establish a speech therapy profession in Cambodia by training 100 localspeech therapists by 2030. Our work is focused on creating sustainable, community-drivenchange that supports children with communication disabilities.

Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate and well-connected individual to join our Board with a specificfocus on opening doors and creating strategic connections with NSW-based schools and thebroader education sector. The successful candidate will leverage their professional networks, education-sector experience and community connections to identify opportunities, facilitate introductions and help OIC Australia establish relationships with schools for our flagship fundraising campaign, Day Without Speech (DWS).

The Board member will also contribute to Board-level strategy and governance, helping OIC Australia identify opportunities to expand its reach and strengthen its engagement with the education community.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and facilitate strategic introductions to NSW schools, school leaders, education networks and other relevant stakeholders who are interested in running Day Without Speech (DWS)
• Provide strategic advice and perspective on how OIC Australia can effectively engage with the NSW education sector.
• Act as a senior ambassador and advocate for OIC Australia within relevant educationand community networks.
• Support the Board in identifying opportunities to broaden OIC Australia’s reach, partnerships and fundraising potential.
• Contribute to board-level strategic planning and governance.
• Collaborate with fellow board members and volunteers to develop and executeengagement strategies.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential:

• Strong connections with NSW-based schools OR leadership experience in the NSW education sector.
• Ability and willingness to make strategic introductions and open doors through professional and community networks.
• Passion for community-based fundraising and improving the lives of children withcommunication disabilities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Alignment with OIC Australia’s mission, values, and commitment to inclusion.

Desirable:

• Prior experience on a not-for-profit or community board.
• Senior leadership experience within education, government, community or related sectors.
• Experience developing strategic partnerships or stakeholder relationships.
• Understanding of the NFP sector and community fundraising.

Commitment Required

• Attendance at four Board meetings annually (approximately 1 hour each).
• Participation in occasional Board check-ins and strategic discussions.
• Availability to make introductions and provide strategic connections to relevant schools and education stakeholders as opportunities arise.
• Attendance at selected Day Without Speech or other OIC Australia events where appropriate and where the Board member’s presence would add value.
