Make a meaningful contribution
Aged and Disability Advocacy Australia (ADA Australia) is seeking two experienced and committed Non-Executive Directors to join its Board. This is an opportunity to apply your expertise, governance capability and strategic insight to advance the rights, wellbeing and inclusion of older people and people with disability.
About ADA Australia
For more than 35 years, ADA Australia has provided free, confidential advocacy, information, education and legal services to older people and people with disability across metropolitan, regional, rural and remote Queensland. With more than 140 staff and annual revenue exceeding $20M, the organisation continues to expand its impact across aged care, disability, legal services, systemic advocacy and education.
The role
Working collaboratively with fellow Directors and the Chief Executive Officer, Board Directors:
- Provide strategic oversight and effective governance
- Contribute to organisational strategy and monitor performance
- Oversee risk management and organisational sustainability
- Support accountability to members, clients, funders and stakeholders
- Uphold ADA Australia’s mission, values and commitment to continuous improvement.
Skills and experience
We welcome candidates who bring diverse perspectives, strong governance capability and relevant professional or lived experience. The Board strongly encourages applicants with lived experience of ageing and aged care, disability, caring, or advocacy. Expertise in governance, strategy, finance, audit, risk, law, technical and digital strategy and implementation, executive leadership, community engagement, human services, aged care, disability services or advocacy will be highly regarded.
Board renewal and leadership
ADA Australia is committed to Board renewal and succession planning. Subject to Board needs and established election processes, Directors who demonstrate strong governance and leadership capability may be considered for future Board leadership roles, including Board Chair. Applicants are not expected to aspire to a leadership role.
Commitment
The Board meets every two months, alternating between in-person meetings in Brisbane and virtual meetings. Directors also participate in strategy workshops, Board development and other governance activities.
This is a voluntary role. Reasonable expenses are reimbursed, and membership of the Australian Institute of Company Directors is supported.
