Help guide the future of recreational fishing in Western Australia. Nominations open for Recfishwest elected Directors
Recfishwest is Western Australia's peak body for recreational fishing, working to ensure great fishing experiences for the community while protecting and enhancing the fisheries that support them. Our Board provides the governance, strategic direction and oversight that supports this work.
At the 2026 Annual General Meeting, three elected Director positions will become vacant, each for a two-year term, and we are seeking nominations from people with the skills, experience and perspective to make a strong contribution to the Board.
We welcome potential nominees from a range of professional and community backgrounds, including science, business, governance, policy, community leadership and recreational fishing.
The Board's current skills assessment has identified science and research as a priority gap, and we particularly encourage nominations from people with that background. We also welcome emerging and younger leaders who can bring new perspectives to the Board.
What we are looking for
Directors are expected to understand and uphold their governance and fiduciary responsibilities, act in Recfishwest's best interests, and contribute constructively to collective Board decision-making.
Attributes that would be valuable include:
- strategic thinking, sound judgement and the ability to work collaboratively, considering different perspectives;
- scientific, governance, business, policy or community leadership experience;
- financial literacy, commercial acumen and risk, audit and compliance experience;
- advocacy, government relations and stakeholder engagement, including communications, media and marketing capability; and
- a genuine commitment to recreational fishing and healthy, sustainable fisheries.
We are also keen to hear from candidates who broaden the perspectives around the Board table, including people based in regional and remote Western Australia.
Nomination process
Recfishwest's elected Directors are chosen by our members. If nominations exceed the three available positions, an election will be held ahead of the Annual General Meeting.
An eligible financial member intending to nominate for an elected Director position is required to give notice to the CEO of Recfishwest in writing on the nomination form through this link
Director roles are voluntary, with sitting fees provided to cover expenses. The Board generally meets around eight times each year.
