Location: Wollongong, NSW, with Board meetings held online

Commitment: Approximately 4–6 hours per month, including Board meetings every six weeks on Tuesdays at 7pm, strategic planning sessions and occasional committee involvement

About Green Connect Farm Ltd.

Green Connect Farm Ltd. is a not-for-profit social enterprise based on an 11-acre urban farm in Warrawong, Wollongong.

We create employment and training opportunities for former refugees and young people experiencing barriers to employment, while growing fair food using organic farming principles and helping our community connect with food, farming and the environment.

Our work includes employment and training programs, our Fair Food veg box social enterprise, school and community education programs, volunteering and farm-based activities.

Green Connect became an independent Company Limited by Guarantee in 2025. As we continue to strengthen the organisation and work towards long-term sustainability, we are looking for new directors who believe in our mission and can help guide Green Connect through its next stage.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for people who can bring experience, ideas, sound judgement and different perspectives to our Board.

We welcome candidates from a broad range of professional and community backgrounds. Experience in areas such as governance, social enterprise, finance, fundraising and philanthropy, commercial development, employment and training, sustainability, community development, legal, marketing or partnerships would all be valuable.

As part of this recruitment round, we are particularly interested in strengthening the Board's financial expertise and would also welcome candidates with the experience and interest to potentially take on the Chair role. However, these are not requirements. We are keen to hear from anyone who believes they can make a meaningful contribution to Green Connect's future.

Key Responsibilities

As a Green Connect director, you will:

• Contribute to strategic planning and help set Green Connect's long-term direction.

• Monitor organisational performance and progress against strategic priorities.

• Provide governance oversight and help ensure Green Connect meets its legal and regulatory responsibilities.

• Review financial performance, budgets and organisational risks.

• Support and appropriately challenge the CEO and executive team.

• Contribute your professional expertise, experience and networks where they can help the organisation.

• Act as an ambassador for Green Connect and help build relationships with community, government, philanthropic and corporate partners.

• Participate actively in Board meetings, strategic planning and occasional committees or Board projects.

Skills and Attributes

We are looking for people who:

• Have a genuine connection to Green Connect's social and environmental purpose.

• Can think strategically while understanding the practical realities of a small social enterprise.

• Bring sound judgement, integrity and a collaborative approach.

• Are comfortable asking thoughtful and sometimes difficult questions.

• Can contribute constructively to Board discussions and decision making.

• Are willing to actively support the organisation beyond attending Board meetings when needed.

Previous Board or governance experience would be valuable, but we recognise that strong potential directors can come from many different backgrounds.

Green Connect is at an important stage in its development.

Since becoming an independent organisation, we have been working to strengthen our business model, increase earned income and build a financially sustainable future while protecting the social and environmental impact at the heart of Green Connect.

Like many social enterprises, we face financial challenges as well as significant opportunities. We are looking for directors who are comfortable contributing during a period of change and who want to play an active role in helping build a stronger and more sustainable organisation.

We are committed to being open and transparent with prospective directors about our financial position, opportunities and challenges throughout the recruitment process.

Commitment

Board meetings are currently held online every two months on Tuesday evenings at 6pm. Directors also participate in strategic planning and may contribute to committees or specific projects between meetings.

The overall commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month.

Board positions are voluntary.
