Any further information about this vacancy:

CAS is a motor speech disorder that affects a child's ability to plan and coordinate the movements needed for speech. It is often identified late, and Australian families face a fragmented system: unclear NDIS and Medicare pathways, high upfront assessment costs, and difficulty finding speech pathologists with real CAS expertise. There is currently no operating national organisation focused on this gap.

Kids with CAS is being established to change that, through three avenues:

  • Support: navigation help, a vetted clinician directory, peer connection and, in time, hardship grants for assessment, genetic testing and communication devices
  • Advocacy: better access to assessment and treatment through federal, state and education policy
  • Education: training and resources so GPs, paediatricians and teachers can support CAS early

We are registering as a company limited by guarantee, and will seek ACNC charity registration and Deductible Gift Recipient endorsement as a Health Promotion Charity.

The opportunity

We're completing our founding board of three directors. You would help shape the organisation from the start, including its financial controls, funding strategy and governance. This is a hands-on role for the first 12 to 18 months while we register and launch.

What we're looking for

Essential

  • Experience in finance, accounting, audit or financial management, or in governance, legal or compliance
  • Other experience and backgrounds will also be considered
  • Commitment to the mission and available for the time above

Desirable

  • Not-for-profit or charity board experience
  • Experience with ACNC registration, DGR endorsement or fundraising compliance
  • Lived experience of CAS or childhood speech or disability needs (not required)

No previous board experience is needed if you bring the skills and the commitment.

How to apply

Email jade@harmanhealth.com.au with a short bio (about half a page) and a few lines on why you're interested and what skills you'd bring. We'll arrange a chat. Appointment follows a conflict-of-interest declaration and eligibility checks.
