Nominations close at 5pm AEDT on Friday 23 October 2026.

Term commences at the virtual AGM at 12 noon AEDT on Thursday 26 November 2026 for two years. Nominees must be available for virtual meetings that day, including the AGM.

About ASMR

ASMR is the peak professional society representing health and medical researchers working in Australia. Through political and scientific advocacy, we support researchers navigating an increasingly challenging research landscape, create opportunities for students and early career researchers, and work towards a stable and secure research workforce and environment.

The role

The Board oversees ASMR’s national activities and comprises up to 11 Directors. Terms of office for seven Directors conclude at the AGM on 26 November 2026. Directors:

  • Undertake planning, promotion, advocacy and lobbying activities.
  • Take responsibility for a portfolio of work.
  • Provide executive leadership to State committees and ASMR members.

Skills and experience

We encourage nominations from people interested in health and medical research who bring skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Governance
  • Financial capabilities
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Communications and marketing
  • Advocacy and political relations
  • Professional development
  • Events coordination

Eligibility

  • Directors do not have to be ASMR members, but the majority of the Board must be members.
  • Every nomination must be proposed and supported by a current ASMR member. Please contact the Executive Office at katriona@asmr.org.au if you would like to request support from a member.

Prospective nominees and nominators who are not current members can apply to join ASMR.
