Targeting:

Volunteer Treasurer, Sherwood Community Kindergarten (Brisbane)

Sherwood Community Kindergarten is a not-for-profit community kindy next to Hives Park in Sherwood, running since 1958 and managed by a committee of parent volunteers. We’re also a registered charity.

We’re looking for a qualified accountant, working or retired, to join our management committee as Treasurer for 2027. You don’t need to have a child at the kindy.

The role

• Oversee the kindy’s finances and report to the committee at each meeting
• Co-authorise payments (two committee signatories are needed)
• Prepare and monitor the annual budget
• Arrange the annual financial statements after our 30 September year end, and liaise with our auditor so the audit is done before the AGM
• Help with our annual ACNC reporting
• Work with our Administrator, who looks after the day-to-day bookkeeping

About you

• Accounting qualification and experience (CPA, CA or similar)
• Ideally Brisbane based
• Comfortable giving independent financial oversight to a small not-for-profit

Time commitment

• At least 10 committee meetings a year, held online in the evening, usually 1 to 2 hours each
• Additional hours each month outside meetings, to the extent you’re able to give, more around year end and the AGM
• The term runs from our AGM on Wednesday 2 December 2026 to the following AGM

Good to know

• Committee members must be members of the association and are elected at the AGM. We’ll arrange your membership and nomination.
• You’ll need a Queensland blue card (or exemption card) before you start.
• Once you’re on the committee, you’ll also need to:
  • complete free child safety training on the Australian Government’s Geccko platform: Courses 1 and 2 within 14 days and Course 5 within 3 months, with refreshers every 2 years
  • complete a PA02 Declaration of Fitness and Propriety, which goes to the Queensland regulator
  • set up an individual PRODA account (the Government’s online ID system) so you can be linked to the kindy
• Our Administrator will help you with the paperwork.
