About us

Suited to Success Inc (STS) is a not-for-profit community organisation helping people overcome barriers to employment.  Originally established in 2008, as an incorporated association in Queensland, STS completed the transition to a public company limited by guarantee on 22 August 2017 operating under its Constitution.

Our programs are delivered by a small, dedicated team of qualified staff and trained volunteers including counsellors, social and human services professionals and human resource specialists.  We provide programs and services from our premises in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane including the Dress for Success® Brisbane program for women.

 

The Board of STS is a working Board with up to 8 directors and a Company Secretary/Public Officer.  With less than 5 FTE staff, directors may have responsibility for a specific operational area working closely with management until responsibilities are transferred to a funded operational position. 

Board appointments are covered in Section 8 of the STS Constitution which allows for up to 3 directors to be appointed by the Board for their particular skills and experience, currently in the areas of HR, Finance and Governance.

The position

At present, we require a Director, Finance who will be responsible for the financial management of the organisation and administration of fiscal matters, including development of the annual budget and annual review of financial policies and procedures.

At the operational level, the Director Finance provides key support to executive management on all financial matters and it is expected that up to 20 hours may be required in some months of high activity to fulfil the responsibilities of this role.

This is a voluntary role, without remuneration

The position has full voting rights as a Board director.

 

The opportunity

 Compile and present monthly financial reports

  • Develop annual budget with Dress for Success Brisbane (DFSB) budget and financial statements
  • Manage the relationship with STS auditors to ensure accounts are audited annually and available for distribution
  • Establish a network of financial professional volunteers to whom responsibilities can be delegated and to provide back-up and succession for this position
  • Recruit and manage volunteers responsible for delegated financial activities
  • Manage the relationship with STS bankers and ensure the use of accounts that provide best investment returns on reserves
  • Ensure appropriate financial management systems are in place and managed accordingly
  • Support funding applications through provision of templates for budgets, expenditure against grant income, financial reports with support documentation for grant acquittals
  • Annual review and updated of financial policies in the Governance Manual (Section 4.3).
  • Keep up-to-date and ensure compliance with state and national financial legislation and reporting requirements

 

What you will bring

  • At least 5 years’ senior financial management experience in a business with an annual turnover of at least $500k preferably in the not-for-profit area
  • A registered CPA with a tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, business or related field
  • Well-connected with established business and social networks in the Brisbane area
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong communications
  • Demonstrated business acumen and instinct, able to quickly assimilate and analyse complex information
  • Ability to function effectively aa a collaborative team member and cultivate positive working relationships
  • Committed to work within the parameters of our values

 

Attendance at Meetings

Board meetings are held bi-monthly, generally on the third Thursday of the month, at 4:30pm. Attendance is in person at the STS offices in Fortitude Valley, or via Skype depending on the practicality. Between meetings, interaction occurs through various committees, phone and email.

The various committees meet at times convenient to the committee members.
